I would like the THANK Ron and Mike for sharing their stories, I live not far from TC and I never knew that Children also Lived at the Hospital..:( Your story has drawn me in so much that I must check this site daily to see if anymore of your story has been posted. I truly cant wait for Rons book to be published.

Ron I do have a question for your regarding the photo of the hippy tree you posted. The building that is right behinde the tree, what building is that, and what building is to the right of the tree (if your looking at the photo).

My sister said she use to spend a lot of time out there once the hospital was closed down, I guess it was a hang out for PUNKS..lol (those were her words, Thank havens she has changed..:)). Her and I along with our mother plan to (very soon) spend a day out there walking around and taking Pic's. I was also very scared out there because of the storys that have gone around, but you both have opened my eyes and now I don't have the fear but I have this need to walk the grounds.

Thank you again for sharing your stories..

Mad and Tattletale, WELCOME to the forum.

We apreeciate your interest. I expect that in another 10-20 years there will be whole differen story going around about TCSH.

When I met Hiedi Johnson(RIP) she told me that there was an argument going on for years about whether or not children had beed admitted to TCSH. I told her where she could find records to prove they were.

Tattletale, you said you were going to take picture? I should have ask Audrey but never thought about it. Could you take some close-up pictures of the barns and post them?

I spent one cold winter night inside the biggest barn(#206) the last time I ran away from TCSH. Then turned myself into the farm house the next morning. I remember that real ciear. And then the adrenaline rush I got when I first split. :D

Mike I will be sure to look for Barn #206.. I know that some have been torn down, but I will it my best.. It just brakes my heart to see all the mess that is out there with the buildings, how kids have painted all over them. There is sooooo much history out there and it is nice to see that some of the buildings are being restored..

Hope to chat soon

To answer 2 questions, the building behind the hippy tree is building 50 womens wards, next the building lower from hippy tree is the old receiving building and our school building's 37 and 37a, note the picture was before the new admin was added to 37a and before the band shell.
.
Last night I was having some taffyoka pudding, and I remember most kids hated it for some reason, I think they thought it was made of fish eggs, lol.
Well the cooks started putting choalate in it so we would eat it, but it was cooking choalate and it was bitter as I recall.

Tapioca pudding is so good. Forget the chocolate. Kids now days don't like it. Cooks at the tcsh probably put too much cocoa in it and it made it bitter.

On hall-18 this was the 3rd floor and them stairs, lol and part of the basement too we had to climb, There was so many stairs, 8 inch stairs and we use to run up the stairs and my legs use to get sore by the time we got to the top. The attic was above hall-18 and I was there a few times, they stored chairs and stuff up there. It was all set up like hall-18 and could be used in a pinch. I'll bet mfarnam remembers the sore legs from them stairs. lol

OH yes. Those stairs were like a method of punishment.
Awhile back I ask my little sister what she remembered about TCSH.
That's all she could remember is climbing up all those stairs when they came to visit.

Ron, why would they have let you up in the attic? Did you sneak up there? That could not have been too safe up there. They got rid of the cemetery I thought so what did they do with the graves? :) Audrey

I remember going in the attic with an attendant or janitor at different times to get extra chairs. I think they were for the classroom, I'm not sure. It was creepy up there. Layers of dust, spider webs, cob webs. I think some squirrels and chipmunks, and even racoons had nest up there. There were a couple broken windows.(ask Ron :D )

I think Heidi Johnson told me that the cemetary was moved. I still have all of her messages, so I'll check to see if she mention where they were
moved to. I believe that they're still somewhere on the grounds. :|

Even back then that cemetary looked like something from "The Adams Family" or a horror movie. :)

yeah that one picture I took from a broken window that is all cloudy makes me think of how creepy it is. Still is. Dark, dusty and eerie. I am patiently waiting to explore some more in October. The colors should be nice from the hill by my jr high school at least. I won't have my parents with me so I can go back to the barns and see what is there. I do not believe that they should be renovating that place. They have tried to erase what happened there but it can never b erased. Now the kids are just destroying the play by graffiti. I go where I am not supposed to but I only look.
